When a patient with a terminal illness suddenly died one night, an investigation was initiated against Kelly Keegan’s client, the patient’s nurse, for lack of care. The accusations could have resulted in charges of Felony Second Degree Manslaughter. After significant communications with the investigator and prosecutor on the case, Kelly was able to demonstrate that the patient’s cause of death was uncertain and that there was no evidence to suggest her client was responsible for the patient’s passing. Ultimately, she convinced the prosecutor to decline to press charges and avoided disastrous consequences for her client.
