Kelly’s client retained her to restore his gun rights so that he can manage his firearm store and weapon-training business. Earlier in life, he had been arrested for a murder-for-hire plot for allegedly attempting to hire a hit man to kill a police officer while her client working as a confidential informant. He ultimately pled guilty to Felony Terroristic Threats, leading to a lifetime ban on possessing firearms. Kelly mounted a vigorous offense to help her client regain his rights, arguing that he had rehabilitated and that there was good cause to restore his rights. She also dug deep to find old records related to the crime to recount the facts and explain her client was young and had not been truly serious about having the officer killed at the time. Despite the strong objections of the prosecutor and the appearance of the law enforcement officer victim and his family in court opposing the restoration, the judge agreed with Kelly and restored her client’s rights so that he may now manage his gun store.
